Christine, No, you do not need a bypass plug. " If your refrigerator has a water filter, it may further reduce the water pressure when used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system. Remove the water filter. See “Water Filtration System" in the User Instructions, User Guide, or Use & Care Guide." Simply, but carefully open the filter door, the filter will partially eject from the filter housing, remove the filter and close and "snap" the filter door back into the closed position. The filter housing will automatically bypas the filter and supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. Thanks,

Jim, You have to manually reset the filter indicator light on the dispenser which will have instructions on doing so in the owners manual.
