The Washer Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is vital for draining water from the washer drum during the wash and rinse cycles. The pump forces water out of the drum and through the drain hose, ensuring that clothes are cleaned and rinsed effectively.

Symptoms of a failing Washer Drain Pump Assembly include:

  • Water not draining from the washer, leaving clothes wet
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as humming or grinding
  • Error codes on the washer's display indicating drainage issues
  • Water leaks from the pump area or from the washer
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle due to drainage problems

Causes of a bad drain pump assembly can include obstructions from debris, wear and tear on the pump motor over time, electrical issues such as short circuits, or damage from improper installation or usage.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Note: This pump has been redesigned and the mounting plate is no longer required. It now mounts directly to the base of the washer.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Drain Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18025998)

Hello Jose, This sounds like there may be an issue in the timer causing the water valve to energize during the final spin. If you open the lid and actuate the lid switch, put the unit into spin and make sure there is no water dispensed during the final spin. If there is, you need to replace the timer. If not, make sure the unit is draining completely in about 90 seconds or the drain pump is not operating properly.

Alan, With the symptoms that you have given, this issue does sound like the bearings in the pump are starting to go out. You will want to make sure that you are checking your pockets to make sure that no loose change is in them when washing and make sure that they are empty as this could be caused by that. Also check the pump to see if there is something lodged in it.

Casey, There will always be a little bit of water that will be left in the outer tub. If you are getting an odor then it may be that the washer needs to have a clean cycle run through it using afresh or washer magic to clean the unit out. This little bit of water that is left is for the purpose of keeping the seals from drying out.

Don, The pulley does not come off the pump. The pump was redesigned to not have the mounting plate attached. You would just install the way it is.

Paula for Model Number mav6200aww

Hi, we are having a problem with the washer. It was running fine until the other day for a few loads it was making odd noises and I just brushed it off the other day I put a load in and went to check on it and it filled all the way up and stopped. Opened the lid and it was smokey and smelled. We took the front off and it seems like the pump isn't working correctly when it spins it feels like its grinding. I'm pretty sure we have to replace the pump but when we took the front off and ran the washer I noticed that The motor moves is that normal? Almost like when the machine is on it pulls closer towards the bin. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help in advance!

1 Answer

Paula, Yes the motor is supposed to move when switching direction. If the pulley on the pump is not turning then you will want to replace the pump and may want to replace the belt as well.
