The Washer Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is vital for draining water from the washer drum during the wash and rinse cycles. The pump forces water out of the drum and through the drain hose, ensuring that clothes are cleaned and rinsed effectively.

Symptoms of a failing Washer Drain Pump Assembly include:

  • Water not draining from the washer, leaving clothes wet
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as humming or grinding
  • Error codes on the washer's display indicating drainage issues
  • Water leaks from the pump area or from the washer
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle due to drainage problems

Causes of a bad drain pump assembly can include obstructions from debris, wear and tear on the pump motor over time, electrical issues such as short circuits, or damage from improper installation or usage.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Note: This pump has been redesigned and the mounting plate is no longer required. It now mounts directly to the base of the washer.

Hello James. It sounds like the unit is siphoning out the water in the unit. Check and make sure there is only 6" of drain hose in the drain pipe. Also, make sure the drain pipe is 36" off the floor in height. You will need to check and make sure the drain hose has an air gap going into the drain pipe. If it is air tight, it will siphon.

Jeremy, The belt would not have anything to do with the unit leaking. The pump could be clogged and cause the unit to leak but would normally do this during all cycle spins and not just the fast spin. You will want to check the tub for cracks. Check for the unit overfilling with water and water being added after it starts the agitation.

Jason, It sounds like the issue with your unit would be with the water valve solenoid coming on and off during the spin cycle. If this is occurring then the issue would be caused by a timer that is faulty.

Hello Stan, There is most likely some debris in the pump. This is common since the pump rotation will force debris away from the impeller in one direction and pull it back in the other.

Hello Grannye. Check and see if the bearing went out in the drain pump. If so, you will need to replace the pump on the unit.

Ron, The pump would be something that you will want to check. It does sound like the bearings in the pump have seized which would cause the unit belt getting burnt up and would cause the leaking issue. You would want to tilt the unit back and check to see if the pump will turn easily by hand.
