Washer not draining. I saw the wheel inside spinning and felt air coming out the drain end when on spin cycle. I took out the drain pump. When i turn the pulley with my hand the inside the pump turns but if i hold something in the pump on the wheel and turn the pulley , the wheel doesn't even try to turn. Is the pulley connected to the pumps internal wheel? I can pour water into the wash tub and it come out the hose. I also poured water down the drain hose and it came out. So I am now thinking the pump is bad. Could the drain hold still be clogged or is the pump bad? The belts are good.

My washing machine seems to have combined problems. First it wouldn't stop at the end of a cycle. I hear it ticking then going into another wash cycle. My husband talked to a friend who said to replace the timer and we did but it is still happening. Since replacing the timer I noticed it won't drain. I don't know if these are related. The belts seem tight, there is about a finger tip width of space when I pull the sides of the belt together before the motor moves. The pulley turns when I pull the belt. Would the machine just go into another cycle of its still full of water? Do I need to replace the pump? Do I need another timer? Thank you for any direction you might give. I appreciate your time.

Hello Jes, yes replace the drain pump, WP6-2022030 if the washer cannot empty the tub water in the allowed time the timer may be powered through a back feed circuit and cause it to run into the wash cycle.

Randy, Check to make sure that there is nothing caught in the drain pump causing slow flow. The drain pump would be the most likely cause of this issue.

Debbie, Since the drain pump is belt driven and not in operation as it fills then you probably have a siphoning effect going on. Make sure the drain hose is not pushed too far down into the standpipe. There needs to be an air gap between the end of the drain hose and any water sitting in the standpipe.

Hello Rob. If the motor is running and spinning the tub and the unit is not draining, it sounds like the pump may be bad and need to be replaced on the unit.

My washer has gradually gotten to the point where it won't drain the water. The problem started about 2 months ago. We could usually play around with it by starting it on different settings to finally get it to drain. I can easily turn the pulley coming out of the drain pump both clockwise and counter-clockwise. With the belt attached, I can only turn it one way, counter-clockwise. I can see thru the pump, and there are bubbles inside it when the washer is agitating, but when it is supposed to be draining, nothing is happening underneath the washer with the 2 belts, and there are no bubbles inside the pump. Do you think it is the drain pump?

1 Answer

Darrell, If the unit is not draining or spinning in the drain/spin cycle you will want to check the lid switch to make sure that the switch is not bad. The drain pump having a bad bushing could also cause this issue to occur.

Dale, Since the drain pump turns based on the belt of the unit, you will want to check the belt to make sure that it is not bad. Check the pulley on the motor and on the drain pump to make sure that they are not loose.

Went to unload the washer and found the water did not drain. I did some troubleshooting. The belts were OK and I removed the drain pump. When you turn the pulley by hand the impeller does not turn, but when you pull down hard on the pulley (feels spring loaded?) it does turn the impeller. As soon as you quit pulling the impeller stops. Since this is a fixed mount pump does the water pressure engage the impeller, or is the pump just bad? Please advise. Thanks!

1 Answer

Jim, The pump should not have to be pulled down for the pump to work. The pump would need to be replaced. The part number for the drain pump is WP6-2022030.
