  • Common failure symptoms: burner won't heat, stuck on high, won't turn off, or only one temperature
  • Restores proper control of the affected surface burner
What's included: 1 switch assembly Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; this is a live-voltage component
  • Match and transfer wires terminal-for-terminal from the old switch
  • Handle the control shaft carefully to avoid damage
  • Test the burner at multiple settings after installation

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Surface Element Infinite Switch (Part Number: OEM18042384)

1 Answer

Andrew, The best option is to check to see if there is 240 vac across the bake element when turned to bake. If there is then the element will be faulty and if there is not then the switch would be the issue.

Kevin S. Based on the information provided it sounds as if you may have had a loose connection which causes heat and burn out. I would replace the switch and repair the wiring and make sure the connectors are on tight.

Sue P. for Model Number GFE461LVS

My oven has been thru multiple heating sensors (4), next to last in December due to overheating. I was surprised when I recently had the same issue but thought maybe I got a bad sensor. After just 2 weeks I am back where I started: broiler coming on when oven set to 350°F. Various online info says either control switch, bad connection at main board or main board. How to check to see issue, without purchasing wrong part or buying part and oven not being repair? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Sue, The issue is more likely to be the connection of the temperature sensor to the harness. This connection should be done with ceramic wire nuts and should be outside of the bake compartment insulation. This can be accomplished from inside the bake compartment if the connections are pushed through the insulation and both layers of metal.

Dustin for Model Number whirlpool RF110AXSQ 3

The oven will heat up and the preheat light will go out but it seems to not maintain temperature because the light will come back on every few minutes and it bakes like it never got up to the selected temperature. The broil element has 16 ohms of resistance and the bottom element has 22 ohms. The temperature sensor has 1100 ohms at room temperature. The broil element comes on when set to broil but not when set to bake. The bottom element glows bright red on bake.

Jimmy, The switch could be the issue with the unit but you will want to check the thermal cutoff first. If the thermal cutoff 9757158 does not have continuity then it is faulty and would need to be replaced. If the thermal fuse checks ok then the switch WP9762215 would be the issue.

Danny, The oven selector just determines which one will be allowed to cycle on and off. The oven thermostat 3169307 is the switch that will control the power to the bake or broil.

Francisco for Model Number Hot Point Electric Stove (I think) with oven switch 9762215

Hot Point Electric Stove (I think) with oven switch 9762215 - Burners are fine. Oven is not working. Very expensive switch. Will like to order one but I will like to troubleshoot first. Switch part number is 9762215. I am good with tools and a multimeter, but dont know the readings I am looking for. This is our small church's stove, used special functions - We don't have much money and will hate for the church to take a $100 hit without making sure.

1 Answer

Hello Francisco, I really hate to put off the church, but we really need a model number so we can pull the wiring diagram and give you accurate troubleshooting instruction and readings. If you could check the units' I.D. tag and get back with us we will be more than happy to assist you in the repair.
