The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

For Whirlpool Spark Module Kit (Part Number: OEM12030111)

Sy for Model Number MGC5430ADB

hi I have a Maytag MGC5430ADB 30" gas cooktop. I want to buy this spark module, and replace the broken unit. How do I access the module underneath the cook top cover? So far, I've removed the gas control knobs, and the 2x screws under each burner. Then, when I try to lift the cook top cover, it's not coming up. The whole assembly (including the enclosure below) seems to be moving together with the cook top cover. I don't want to break anything trying to do this repair. Any ideas how to remove the cook top cover? Or do I have to remove the whole cook top assembly first? Thanks!

1 Answer

Sy, It would be necessary to remove the entire cooktop from the cabinet first and then remove the screws around the perimeter that are holding the main top in place.

Myron, If the oven light will not go off at the control board then the issue will be a stuck relay for the control for the light assembly and would require a new control board.

Curt, You will want to test the ignition switches on the unit and see if they have continuity in the off position. If their is one that does then will need to replace the switch. The switch part number is WP7403P367-60. In order to access you will need to remove the unit from the counter and will need to remove the screws around the perimeter of the cooktop. You will also need to remove the knobs, burners and grates from the unit.

Derek, The ignition wires are the least likely issue, based on your post information. The wires don't fail as often as they used to. However, the spark module 12001596 is the most likely problem and should be replaced.

G. Art K. To access the spark module you will need to pull the unit from installation. Remove the burners and the knobs. You will want to remove the screws around the perimeter of the base. Lift off the main top.

Hello Jason. It does not matter. As long as L and N are correct, any of the igniters can go 1-4.

Mark for Model Number JDS9860AAW

I am trying to determine if a bad spark module is my problem. About 6 months ago i suddenly had no spark from any burner -- no clicking, nothing. About 1 hour later the spark returned, all was fine until yesterday, when the same problem occurred -- gas (actually propane) will come on, but no spark, no clicking, no noise whatsoever. Has stayed this way for past 12 hours. Again, all 4 burners are not sparking. Is failure to spark (or click) at all 4 burners usually attributable to a failed spark module (part # AP4108240)?

1 Answer

Hello Mark. Yes, it sounds like the module is bad on the unit. Make sure the wiring is good first and if so, you will need to replace the module.

James, This issue sounds like it would be caused by a faulty spark module since there is clicking and no sparking.
