The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module Kit (Part Number: OEM12030111)

Hello Kian. First try cleaning the burners and orifices on the unit. If they are dirty, the spark is not good and the unit will not light properly. If they are clean, then check for good gas flow. Also, make sure the igniters are not bad on the unit.

Charles, This issue of a 2 weak igniters would most likely be caused by a faulty spark module rather than the wires going to the igniters.

Frank for Model Number KGCT025 YAL-1

Need a spark module for this KitchenAid KGCT025 two burner stovetop. You show that this part is out of stock - as does everyone else. Can you recommend a (cheap) substitute? Believe this is a whirlpool part. I am based in Mexico City, and usually go downtown and simply specify a two burner, four burner or six burner module. I may have to modify terminals, but they work. I’m in the USA for the month and am about to place an order from you, but would like to include this before checkout.

Kat, A defective spark module 12001596 would explain the no spark issue for the top burners, but not the oven. The oven pilot is a different system it's referred to as a "hot surface" igniter. Power from the ERC/Clock is applied directly to the igniter 12400035 , it glows and produces a circuit to the safety valve. Since you "can see the oven pilot on but cannot light the oven" what you're seeing is the igniter is on, but it is "weak" and cannot produce the electrical circuit to the valve to open it and ignite the gas at the oven burner.
