The Detergent Lid Spring is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for providing the necessary tension to open and close the detergent dispenser lid during the wash cycle.

Over time, the detergent lid spring can wear out, lose tension, or break due to repeated use, exposure to water and detergent, or accidental mishandling. If the spring becomes faulty, the dispenser lid may not function properly, leading to poor washing results.

Symptoms of a bad detergent lid spring include:

  • Detergent dispenser lid not opening during the cycle
  • Difficulty in closing the dispenser lid
  • Inconsistent or incomplete release of detergent
  • Visible damage or wear on the spring

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Detergent Lid Spring (Part Number: OEM18035037)

Leon for Model Number 665.15891793

My undercounter dishwasher detergent dispenser door pin, spring and lid popped out and landed in the dishwasher base. We've been having problems with this dispenser door opening reliably and now it's finally given up. I ordered replacement parts for the spring, pin and even the lid but can't seem to figure out how to install these parts such that the lid springs open when needed. Can't figure out how to get spring tension enabled to open the lid when the latch releases. Pictures would be helpful. Thanks in advance Cheers Leon

Hello Leon. If you're not sure which way the spring goes, remember that the spring should compress (coil) when the detergent door is closed, and uncoil when it snaps open. What I finally figured out to reassemble, that worked: 1) Put the spring and pin on the detergent door, with the spring 8066018 coiled so the top side of the coils point back (toward the detergent cup) 2) Snap the pin back into its slots, with the spring's square center tab toward the matching base in the dishwasher door 3) GENTLY lift one side of the pin up again, so you have room to use a small screwdriver to push the free end of the spring into the detergent lid, then press the pin back in 4) Repeat (3) with the other side of the pin, and the other end of the spring. Sorry, we do not have any pictures of this repair as of this time.

While the instructions above give a general idea of how this is to be installed, actually following these directions, even with 2 people proved difficult. What finally worked for us was to use 2 bread ties around the ends of the spring to pull it around into position (using a screwdriver to hold the square end in place) and hold them in position, while the other person went under them and clicked the door back into place. Releasing 1 end of the bread tie, we were able to slide it out with no trouble at all and it's good as new! :)

Paul, First, you need to be cautious, don't break or damage anything. With the detergent cup lid in the full open position, and a pair of needle nose pliers or small flat blade screwdriver, slide the pin to one side, to remove the other end from the tab on the door liner, and slide the door, pin and spring, off the door assembly. reverse the procedure to install the assembly. Good Luck.

Hello Val. Here are the instructions from the manufacture. Hope this helps. Dishwasher Dispenser Disassembly 1. Remove the drawbar spring. 2. Grasp the lower edge of the drawbar and pull it away from the panel stop. Slide the drawbar down until the draw bar holes align with the locking tabs, then remove the drawbar. Note how the locating tabs behind the drawbar align with their respec-tive locating holes in the drawbar. 3. Turn the wet agent cap and seal assembly counterclockwise and remove it. 4. Remove the seal from the cap. 5. Use Special Tool - Part No. WP303918 or a ¾” socket to press over the attaching tabs in the wet agent cap opening. Remove wet agent dispenser assembly. 6. Remove wet agent dispenser actuator by spreading the two (2) locking tabs. 7. Remove the actuator slide from the wet agent dispenser actuator. 8. Remove the diaphragm spring and diaphragm. 9. Use a screwdriver to gently release the lower tab and remove the detergent door actuator assembly. As you do, note the position of the door latch level through the hole in the lower slide. 10. Remove the detergent door latch by carefully spreading the latch snap locking tabs apart with a screwdriver while pushing firmly against the end of the door latch lever until the lever is released through the hole. 11. Remove the upper slide, the slide spring and the lower slide.
