Wren L February 08, 2015 There was a question about the screw in the new shock absorbers about what its purpose was. It was not answered. Could someone provide the answer? I had watched the repairman installing the new shock and had also noticed the screw which was not on the old shock. I mentioned the difference to him wondering if that was an improvement. He did not remove the screw. I only noticed in the blog later that someone had instructions saying that the screw was to be removed. The repairman said that he didn't notice in his instructions about removing the screw. I saw he had a certified whirlpool kit. He said he has not had any issues (yet) and has apparently not been removing the screws.
1 Answer Wren, The screw that is in the side of the shock is meant to be there and you will not want to remove it. The purpose is that it helps to keep the components inside from rattling around. Read More...
Eh June 03, 2014 for Model Number Whirlpool Thin Twin I noticed that each of the shocks have a Screw in the black part of it. Is it supposed to stay there or should it be removed? What's the function of the screw? The instructions show you remove them and then at the end, it says to install the tub in the reverse order. This is fine BUT, when you set the tub back on the new shock absorbers, it moves around and can potentially damage the new shock absorbers. Is there a way to keep it steady while the tub sits on the new shock absorbers so that you can screw on the bolts? There has to be a better way unless there has to be two people to install it where one just holds the tub so it does not damage the new shock absorbers. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Eh, I have replaced may of these and have never damaged any of the new shocks. If you feel it is necessary to prevent you from causing damage, you can get an assistant to help perform the repair. Otherwise, just move the tub gently when aligning it for connection to the tub assembly. Read More...
1 Answer Charles, To remove the suspension springs you will need to raise the main top. Once the main top is up you will then remove the front panel of the washer cabinet. In order to do this repair the unit will need to be laid on its back to remove the bolts for the spring bottom. Once the spring bolt is removed from the bottom you would then use a deep well socket for the top springs. Read More...
Walter August 12, 2013 for Model Number LTE5243DQ6 I need to replace the suspension springs on my washer (LTE5243DQ6). Where can I find the installation instructions?
1 Answer Hello Walter. If you order the spring kit W10207783 it comes with the instruction sheet. Read More...
Aaron September 29, 2012 for Model Number LTE5243DQ2 How do we tell if our 3 suspension springs are weak? I just replaced all 3 2 months ago and now My machine is going crazy when spinning again. The other spring looks good and isn't broken either.
1 Answer Aaron, The replacement springs are the least likely issue at this point. It would take a special spring tension tool, and a spring rating from the manufacturer's engineering dept.to test. You do want to check and make sure the base of the unit is not bent, cracked or distorted(especially in the area where the springs mount to the base), check the tub support assembly for the same. Check and make sure the rear, self levelling legs and mechanism WP358652, WP358594 are operating, and locking in place. and the washer front feet are levelled. Also check and make sure all the panels and panel clips are properly aligned and locked in place. Thanks Read More...
Jason September 29, 2012 for Model Number LTE5243DQ2 I recently bought a used stackable washer and dryer for my garage and when I put the first load in the Machine went crazy. I replaced the 3 Suspension springs and it worked great for 2 months, now it is going crazy again. Could it be something else? The other spring, that doesn't look like a shock, isn't broken but it is about 9in long when it is connected. Is this normal?
1 Answer Hi. It is a reasonable deduction that the 6-1/2" Suspension Spring part # WPW10250667 is stretched as well. Thank You. Read More...
Keith June 18, 2012 for Model Number LT5000XVWO I am asking the same question as Scott did about the 3 springs. There is a collar (clamps) laying on the base of each spring assembly. Were the clamps used for shipping or are they suppose to hold the bottom and top cups together. If they are required to load the top and bottom spring cups, why are they not shown in the picture of spring part number AP4358664??
1 Answer Hello Keith! The clamps you are speaking of are for shipping purposes and not needed. Thanks! Read More...
Clark February 19, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool ThinTwin LTE5243DQ3 I have the exact same problem and symptoms as Ron in the previous question below, but I don't understand how a weak suspension spring would cause the tub to lean down and to the right side; since it appears to counter the weight of the motor assembly on the left side, I would expect exactly the opposite. Can you elaborate on your answer? >>Q: I have a problem with severe shaking during a high-speed spin. I have also noticed that the top of the tub is leaning to the right side of the washer. I have checked the suspension spring and it is OK (not broken or missing). I have inspected the 3 tub springs and they all look OK and not loose. My question is, could these springs be weak and therefore not keeping the tub level? Any info or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Asked by Ron for Model Whirlpool LTE 5243DQO >>A: Hello Ron. It sounds like the suspension spring AP4459650 is weak and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
1 Answer Hello Clark. If the suspension spring is weak or broke, it allows the unit to slide on the plate. It can go eith way at this point. Right left front or back on the floater plate. You willl need to check the springs W10207783 and the suspension spring WPW10250667 in the unit and make sure they are good. Hope this helps. Read More...
Fred November 22, 2011 for Model Number LTE5243DQ6 "THIN TWIN" I have been able to remove the tub assembly from the cabinet and I would like to replace the 3 suspension springs. But I cannot get the nut on top of the spring assembly to budge. there is very little room around the nut to get a good grip on it. Please help.
1 Answer Fred, Do you have access to a "deep" set of sockets or perhaps you could try holding the nut with a wrench and turn the suspension shaft with a pair of vise grips or pliers. You may need to loosen or remove the nuts holding the bottom of the support on the bottom side of the base as well. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
