  • Matches the OEM switch function used in the control/timer area of compatible units.
What's included: One switch assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before beginning any service to avoid shock hazard.
  • Remove required panels or the control console to access the switch; keep track of screw locations and wire connections.
  • Photograph or label wiring before disconnecting to ensure correct reassembly.

For Whirlpool Switch Assembly (6-Position) (Part Number: OEM18017907)

Rick for Model Number GC5SHGXKS00

Ice & water dispenser do not work. The dispenser lock is off, checked the door switch, ice dispenser and water dispenser micro switches with a multi-meter and all 3 are good. There is no visible water in the water dispenser line coming into the door. The wiring harness to the door is not loose. The ice maker still makes ice and a new water filter has been installed. If it is the water inlet valve it seems it is no longer available. Now what? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Rick, You should check for broken tabs on the bracket WP2180226 that hold the microswitches in place. This may be allowing the switch to pivot and not be actuated.

Sam, The dispenser switch assembly is a mechanical switch that uses buttons and to remove you would have to remove the overlay and take it off from the front. In most cases this switch assembly does not go bad and if the unit is not dispensing ice or water would want to look at the white switch bracket on the dispenser to make sure the bracket pins are not broken.

Eric, To remove the water tube from the door you would need to remove the door from the unit. Once removed you will remove the dispenser cover by using a flat blade under it and pop it off. Then you can access the water tube to pull it out. If the icemaker is still working then this issue would either be that the dispenser bracket has broken where the switch is attached or the water valve is faulty and would need replaced.

Jon, The most likely cause for the unit to not produce cubed ice would be that the crush/cube solenoid is either stuck or bad. The part number for the solenoid is WP2152713.

Hello Steve, The front cover 2197645B unsnaps from the freezer door on the unit. You will start at the bottom corner using a flat blade knife and unsnap it from the door on the unit.

Ronnie for Model Number kenmore 106.59429801

My Kenmore 106.59429801 quit making ice and shortly about a week later it quit dispensing water. First I replaced the water filter with a PUR water filter (as I always have used PUR.) It did not fix my problems. Next I checked to see if any of the water lines were frozen, they were not. Next I changed out the water inlet valve, still did not fix my problem. Next I changed out the control bracket and both switches by the dispenser. Still did not fix it. I traced where the water is getting caught up and it is at the water filter housing. That leads me to believe that the housing may be the culprit. However, I would like to know if the refrigerator dispenser switch panel that has 6 switches could be the culprit?? Which part do you believe I should try first, the water filter housing or the dispenser switch panel? Thank you

1 Answer

Ronnie, With the unit not making ice or dispensing water then the switch at the dispenser would not be the issue and you would want to replace the filter housing.

Hello Tom, If the control has gone completely blank, you should first check the electrical connector at the door hinge. This is the cause of the majority of this complaint.

Travis, First check should be at the top freezer door hinge. Check and make sure there are no loose wires or connections, etc. Then you'll need to access and check the WP2180236 selector switch and the actuator switch WP2162361 mounted on the bracket assembly.
