  • Restores reliable selector/position switching when the control won't change settings.
  • Common symptom when failing: appliance is unresponsive to cycle changes, selections don't register, or operation is intermittent.
  • Matches the OEM switch function used in the control/timer area of compatible units.
What's included: One switch assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before beginning any service to avoid shock hazard.
  • Remove required panels or the control console to access the switch; keep track of screw locations and wire connections.
  • Photograph or label wiring before disconnecting to ensure correct reassembly.

Hello Vu, I'm sorry but in order to diagnose the issue, we have to have the model number from the units' I.D. tag. Thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter.

Mark for Model Number KSFS25FJBL01

Hello, I have a Kitchenaid model KSFS25FJBL01 Counter Depth Refrigerator, and the ice dispenser, water dispenser, and light are not working. Sometimes I'm able to get the light to work, so I know the bulb is good, but it's an intermittent problem. The ice and water dispensers never function. Does this sound like the front panel switch assembly (Part Number AP3086666) is bad? Can I use a multimeter to determine the problem? If so, what exactly should I look for? Thanks, Mark

1 Answer

Hello Mark, This sounds like possibly a bad light/door switch W11396033. If it doesn't make when closed, the dispenser is disabled. This would not mean the lights would not come on since this is a different connection inside the switch. I would also check the harness at the door hinge for broken or naked wires. The other switches in the dispense area should be checked in case they have been fouled by drinks splattering when ice was dispensed.

BigT2403, You will want to check the solenoid next to the auger motor to make sure that it is not stuck in the cube position which would be the up position. If so then make sure that it will come back down and if not then the solenoid would need to be replaced. If this checks ok then the switch would most likely be the cause of failure.

Becky for Model Number ED5VHEXVQ01

Hi, our water dispenser seems to only work occasionally. We replaced the water filter (which was still good), turned the temperature in the freezer up in case there was a frozen line, checked the freezer door switch and none of those fixed the problem. It seems to work after it sits for awhile but only for 1 glass of water, then it stops again. The water pressure is good and the ice maker makes ice and dispenses ice with no problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello Becky. It sounds like there may be an issue with the filter housing on the unit. Or the water tank in the fresh food is frozen.

Dave S for Model Number Whirlpool GD25BFCHB00

On my Whirlpool model GD25BFCHB00 side by side refrigerator both the water dispenser and ice dispenser stopped working simultaneously. The ice maker itself is working and produces ice. The freezer door switch is working. The dispenser lock is unlocked. The wiring at the bottom of the door looks fine. Given all this, I suspect that the switch (part# AP3086666) that is attached to the dispenser face plate is the problem. It seems unlikely that both micro switches have failed. Does this sound plausible and is there a way to be sure? I have removed the dispenser face plate from the freezer door but have not been able to remove the switch from the dispenser face plate. My unit has decorative wood panels so the dispenser face plate is larger than the standard face plate. It does not have a standard overlay that is removable from the dispenser face plate. The switch does move around within the bracket enclosure and seems like it should be removable. Looking at the picture of the back of the switch on your site, there is a slot at the top in the middle for a screwdriver that might allow me to pry the switch out but it seems like the plastic will break. There are also 2 hinged tabs at the bottom on the sides as well but I haven't had any luck with these either. I fear that the bracket holding the switch has been glued to the face plate and that I'm out of luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dave, You will want to do a continuity test on the wiring from the bottom of door to the dispenser. It is possible that you have a broken wire that is causing the dispenser not to work rather than the switch. If the switch does need to be replaced you would want to purchase the dispenser cover. To get the switch out you would have to pull the overlay off and take out from the front.

Joe R for Model Number SIDE BY SIDE #GD27DFXFW02

I am being very cautious about removing the overlay. If i take a flat blade putty knife and try to peel it off is it a very thin overlay (like a decal) or does if have some thickness to it. If I am successful in removing the overlay will this leave me an opening to get at the switch#ap3086666? Also, if I cut completely through the overlay and remove the whole section will that be a better choice? Will that give me access to the switch for removal? Reference schematic "dispenser front panel". Anxiously awaiting you reply.

1 Answer

Hello Joe, You could try to remove the overlay using a putty knife being very careful. The overlay is not overly think and can be damaged. Once overlay is off it will give you access to remove switch. Would not recommend cutting section out. If you damage the overlay and want to replace it you will have to order the front cover assembly which will also have the switch in it.

Hello Joe, This is held on by a glue. It is difficult to remove without marring but if you take the edge of a flat blade you may be able to get under it and pull off being very careful. There is not a video to show you how to do this.

Hello Joe, To access the part you will remove the dispenser cover. To do this you will use a flat blade screw driver at the bottom of the cover and pry loose. To get this part off you will have to remove the overlay from the front cover. You will need to be careful not to damage the overlay. Once you have the overlay off there are clips in the back that you push on and release the switch assembly.
