Hello Bruce. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the switch is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Jeff, I would open the unit and make sure no wiring is pinched or shorted. If no problems are found, replace the infinite switch. To access the switch, the cook top will have to be pulled out of the counter top to access the screws around the edges of the unit. This allows you to remove the glass cooking surface to expose the internal workings of the appliance.

Do the dual element controls have a sensitivity / calibration adjustment? Both of mine seem to function correctly, but "Low" is much hotter than with the single element controls....From cold start, single element control set to low causes element to come on and go off in 2 or 3 seconds. Dual element left front control set to single low causes element to stay on 30 seconds before going off...20 seconds on right rear.. I am trying to decide if new controls will help or if this is by design. Thank you for your opinion!

Hello Mike. No, the controls do not have a calibration on them. It is normal for the elements to have different lows from a single to a dual element.

Hello Chris, If the switch doesn't "feel" suspicious, the surface elements W10823692 are first suspect on this design. They tend to fail more often than the other designs. I would definitely test it before ordering a part. If the switch does turn out to be the problem, the part number you had for the infinite switch 8203534 is correct. The unit has to be pulled and the glass top comes off of the bottom half. The main top supports the entire unit in the counter top so if you were able to disassemble it in the counter, the bottom half of the unit would fall in the cabinet.

Hello Connie. You will need to uninstall the cooktop and separate the burner box from the cooktop to access and replace the switches. Hope this helps.

Todd for Model Number KitchenAide stove Model# KECD806RBL01

Three out of the 4 burner controls are stcking and hard to use (someone spilled something sticky all over the controls) I want to replace all of them, two are single burner, one is dual burner and one is three burner. Will the single burner controls be the same because they look different but one has no part number on it. Also the multi burner switches are morked 3191049, NL831607 and 0606103...what is the right part number to order? Thank you

1 Answer

Todd, Here you go : the Left rear and Right front switches are the same WP3191049 6" infinite switch. The Right rear switch is WP4456027 and the Left front switch is WP8286070 . Of course you want to replace one switch at a time, and label the wires or match the wire terminals and wires one at at time. Good Luck and Thanks
