For Whirlpool Infinite Switch (Surface Burner) (Part Number: OEM11017989)

1 Answer

Mark, This infinite switch 8203534 will be the correct dual switch for this model. There is no video for this but you would need to disconnect power and remove the cooktop from the cabinet. Once removed, you will need to remove the screws around the perimeter and remove the main top then you will have access to the switch.

Dennis for Model Number KECC502BBL2

Problem with Dual Concentric Burner in the upper left side of cooktop. Original problem was the burner would intermittently not shut off and, intermittently, the burner on light would remain lit. Replaced Switch TUDP 406 with AP3672660. Color code As follows: Red, Black, Violet, Yellow (Possibly Orange), Yellow/white stripe, (Possibly Orange/white stripe. Per instructions and consultation with your service department, Connected as follows : Black to L1, Red to L2, Yellow to H2, Violet to P, Yellow/white to H1A. Now only the center burner comes on. The striped wire goes to the outer element, the yellow goes to the inner element. I note from my original photo, the yellow wire was jumpered to the Red wire via the switch spade lug.

Dennis, the switch 8203534 should be wired as follows: Red wire to L2, Yellow wire from the element terminal block to H2, Yellow wire with white stripe to H1a, Yellow wire from outer element coil to H1b, and violet wire to P. If the switch is wired like this, and the element outer coil still does not operate, the power supply would need to be turned off and the switched accessed for testing. With the switch in the on position, there should be continuity from L1 to H1b. If there is not, the switch has failed.
