This dual infinite switch controls power to a dual surface burner on an electric range or cooktop. Replacing a failed switch restores smooth heat control and proper inner/outer ring selection for accurate simmer-to-boil performance. What it does:

  • Regulates power sent to the inner and outer sections of a dual surface element
  • Provides variable heat levels from low to high
  • Lets you select small (inner) or large (dual-ring) cooking zones
  • Common failure symptoms: burner stuck on high or won't turn off, won't heat or heats erratically, cannot switch between inner-only and dual-ring modes
What's included:
  • 1 dual infinite surface element control switch
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing
  • Access the control panel; remove the knob and switch mounting hardware as required by your model
  • Label or photograph wiring and transfer each wire to the same terminal on the new switch
  • After reassembly, test both inner-only and dual-ring settings to ensure proper operation

1 Answer

Joe, You would use your model number to look up a wiring diagram for your unit. Check for continuity with the switch on but no power for the contacts that should be closed with the switch on.

Mark E. for Model Number KECC502GWH05

I bought an infinite switch, AP3174889 (4456027), from you folks for my cooktop. First off, it looks nothing like the original. By using the wiring diagram, I've managed to get the LF burner working. However the power indicator light does not come on when this (new) switch is activated; it DOES come on for all the other burners. Here's the description of what wires are currently at what connection, for both the old switch, and the new one: BK - 2 (original), P1 (new) ---- R - N (original), P2 (new) ---- OR - N (original), 2 (new) ---- OR/WH - 3 (original), 4 (new) ---- OR/BK - 4 (original), 4a (new) ---- V - 5 (original), S2 (new). Once again, what is wrong? Do you have a cross-reference for connections on the old switch versus the new one? Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
