Yet, many website say this part is now replaced with part# 3149400 (8.9-11.0A). The new part 3149400 or AP3095444 (8.9-11.0A) metal shaft (the stem) is 1" long (seen from the picture on your website). The old part 3148954 metal shaft (the stem) is 9/16" long. PLEASE ADVISE whether the NEW part 3149400 come with a changeable metal shaft (stem) adapter, or a removable metal shaft (stem) to reduce its length from 1" to 9/16".
1 Answer Stewart, This infinite switch WP3149400 is the correct switch for your unit. This switch has a break away stem. With the stem being too long for your application you can take a pair of pliers to break the top piece off the shaft. Jeff L August 16, 2013 for Model Number aer5830vab I just ordered 2 sets of surface unit switches for our amana range. The original switches are still working but smoke was coming from the larger burner switch. I removed it and noticed it was blackened inside of it., p/n 3148954. and the other large burner's switch was also blackened. One of the smaller burners had a blackened area inside of it's switch p/n 3148951. So, I ordered replacement switches for all 4. 3149400 (2) and3149404 (2). Now my question: Are both of these switches considered "infinite" switches? The 9400.. is called a surface unit switch, by my receipt. Please let me know if I have ordered the incorrect switches. Also, we have not used this range very much at all, and was concerned as to why the switches are blackening or burning. Was told by a friend that if we did not turn the switch on Exactly on the setting , as putting the know in between settings, that could cause the switch to burn. What's your professional answer.
2 Answers Hello Jeff, It appears that you have ordered the correct parts. As for the switches blackening, they are infinite switches. They cycle off and back on by the current flow or by the voltage draw, (depending on the particular design). The blackening is considered normal from breaking and making the of contacts which are located beside where the blackening is occurring. The switch that was smoking probably got some grease into it from normal operation. Your friend is incorrect since the infinite switch has no set contact points for the knob to go to but instead is more like a volume control on a radio. 1 Answer Hello Bill. You need to test and see which switch is closed on the P terminal and passing power to the light. Then you will find the bad switch in the unit.
