For Whirlpool Range Surface Element Switch (Part Number: OEM18023007)

Jeff L for Model Number aer5830vab

I just ordered 2 sets of surface unit switches for our amana range. The original switches are still working but smoke was coming from the larger burner switch. I removed it and noticed it was blackened inside of it., p/n 3148954. and the other large burner's switch was also blackened. One of the smaller burners had a blackened area inside of it's switch p/n 3148951. So, I ordered replacement switches for all 4. 3149400 (2) and3149404 (2). Now my question: Are both of these switches considered "infinite" switches? The 9400.. is called a surface unit switch, by my receipt. Please let me know if I have ordered the incorrect switches. Also, we have not used this range very much at all, and was concerned as to why the switches are blackening or burning. Was told by a friend that if we did not turn the switch on Exactly on the setting , as putting the know in between settings, that could cause the switch to burn. What's your professional answer.

Jeff, Yes, these parts are the correct infinite switches for your unit. Normally the switch not being on the exact setting would it cause the unit to stop working.

Hello Steven. Check and make sure there are no loose wires on the switch. If not, you will need to order and replace the switch WP3148952 on the unit.

Mike, The most likely cause of the indiactore like to still be the element limiter causing the issue.

I have a glass cooktop where the large left front burner stopped working. It was not a gradual thing. It worked fine one day, then the next it did not work at all. All other burners are working fine)There was no bumping of the unit or any power surges. Before I dig into the problem, I am curious if the large burner infinite switch #3149400 could have gone bad. I will check to make sure the connections are still good, but am wondering about the switch. Any ideas?

Hello Jeff, You could test the switch to see if it is bad. You would want to check on the back of the switch from H1 to H2 and you should have 240 vac with the switch in the on position. If you do not have proper voltage then the switch is bad and needs replaced. If there is proper voltage then the element is bad.
