The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It serves as a crucial safety component that prevents the appliance from overheating by cutting off electrical power if the temperature inside the dishwasher becomes too high. This helps protect both the dishwasher and your home from potential fire hazards.

Causes of a bad thermal fuse can include overheating due to blocked air vents, malfunctioning components that lead to excessive heat, or electrical surges that damage the fuse. Over time, regular wear and tear can also contribute to the fuse's failure.

Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse include:

  • The dishwasher not starting or running
  • The control panel not responding
  • The dishwasher stopping unexpectedly mid-cycle
  • No indicator lights or sounds when attempting to operate the dishwasher

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Don, The unit can most likely be repaired but we would need to have the model number to be able to assist properly. The issue could be a burnt out element which sounds more likely or could be a bad control board. If you could supply the model number we would be able to assist properly. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx

Hello Larry, The fuse is blown by excessive current flow. For this reason, the technician should have done some tests to determine if the issue is with the unit or in the wiring to it. You see, if there is excessive current flow at the fuse, there is excessive current flow in the entire circuit, including the breaker and the wiring to the unit. It is a common failure for a motor winding to short and cause this but it is just as common to locate a burned wire nut or a bad breaker that can cause the same issue.

Hello Dale. Make sure the float is not stuck. If not, replace the control panel WP3385741 on the unit. It sounds like it may be bad.

Atx for Model Number Whirlpool DU941PWKQ1

Not all of the buttons on my dishwasher will function. Whirlpool DU941PWKQ1. The Rinse button appears to work, and the Pots and Pans cycle button works, but none of the other wash cycles will function properly. Cancel/drain appears to work. Most of the other buttons will neither work nor light up. When I hit Normal Wash, the sani rinse and cancel drain buttons light up and won't turn off. The Normal wash button doesn't cause the actual wash cycle to start; I think it just goes into drain mode (although there is nothing to drain). I'm stuck using a lot of water and energy because only the Pots and Pans wash cycle will work. Any ideas what is causing this or how to fix it? I'd like to be able to use light wash and normal wash again. Thanks.
