The Thermistor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It plays a critical role in regulating the temperature within the refrigerator and freezer compartments by monitoring and sending temperature readings to the control board, which then adjusts the cooling system accordingly.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include electrical faults, exposure to moisture, or physical damage from mishandling. A faulty thermistor can lead to incorrect temperature readings, causing the refrigerator to overcool or not cool sufficiently.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures within the refrigerator or freezer
  • The refrigerator running constantly or not at all
  • Spoiled food due to improper cooling
  • Error codes related to temperature regulation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Tom, The manufacturer only list the resistance at 77 degrees which is 2.7K ohms of resistance. They do not give us a chart for specifics but would be somewhere around 42K ohms of resistance at 0 degrees.

Hello John. You need to check the damper and the evaporator fan motor. It sounds like the fan may be failing and causing the ice to melt and cooling to stop in the fresh food section.

Jon, You will want to check the compressor to see if it is running. If it is running but not cooling then you will want to pull the cover in the freezer section off. If there is little to no frost pattern then you have a sealed system issue and would need to contact a refrigeration service provider. If the compressor is not running then you may need a start relay.

Rahim for Model Number GD5NVAXWA00

The refrigerator started making a loud noise from the diffuser or air damper. I found that the noise came from the damper opening and shutting really fast for about 10 minutes one day. Then did it again a few days later. A couple of weeks later no cold air was coming from the refrigerator or the freezer. I found that the control board has green lights and the lights inside the refrigerator work. The Evaporator Fan Motor is still running but the condenser fan motor is not running. I ordered a new one with the same results so now I'm not sure how to proceed. I was thinking about replacing the defrost sensor/thermostat or is it the main control board? Any suggestions on why there is no cold air coming from freezer or the refrigerator or why the condenser fan motor not working?

Larry, You will want to check the wiring of the unit and make sure that there are not pinched or broken wires. If the wiring all checks ok then the issue would most likely be that the control board that you received that may be defective.

Hello Rogden34, You will need to replace the main control 8201527. This issue is most likely a failing relay on this board.
