  • Electrical diagnosis varies by design; compare room-temperature continuity to your service information

My oven worked on sunday am and then we tried to use it again and it quit. The stove top still works all burners. If the thermostat has gone out can it be bought with the wires and the probe. This part is so expensive and I can't afford to pay over $70 for one. Otherwise I will go buy a toaster oven to cook. Please advise if we can just replace the little silver box and reattach the wires to it. thank you. my friends son is an electrician and he knows how to wire it. thank you. julie

Julie, The thermostat would be the most likely cause for the unit not working but you would want to have the wiring checked to the thermostat and to the elements to make sure that there is no damage to them. Also have the bake and broil element checked to make sure that they are good. The thermostat comes with the probe and switch on the thermostat and is the only way to get it. The part number for the thermostat is WP74005019.

I do need Whirlpool 74005019 Thermostat, but, I was wondering if its just possible to replace the Thermostat cut off of this switch (the white/black colored 3 pole switch that the temp thermocouple pushes on). After doing an ohms test and repairing that part of the switch the best I could (burnt contacts) the oven is now working. I am sure you will tell me its a un-serviceable part because of the temperature adjustment that needs to be done at the factory, but I thought it was worth asking.

Hello Jeff, This sounds like possibly a relay issue on the control board or possible a harness issue. We can go deeper into the diagnosis if you would please include the model number.

Dee, You will want to check the oven ignitor to make sure that it is not broken and make sure that it is drawing 3.2 to 3.6 amps. If it is not coming on and the ignitor is intact then you would want to replace the thermostat. If cracked or broken or it is coming on and the amp draw is not between 3.2 to 3.6 amps then you would need to replace the ignitor.
