Fred L. July 06, 2012 for Model Number AP3136147 I have a Whirlpool Dryer which will not start. I purchased a new push to start switch and installed it but that did not do the job. When you opened the front door the light comes on okay. Turn the timer to start position and you hear no ticking noise as if it is working. What could the problem be that the machine will not start? Could you offer some advice as to the problem or part I must replace to make it start?
1 Answer Hello Fred. You will need to check and make sure the thermal fuse is good and the door switch is good. If either part is bad, it will prevent the unit from running and working properly. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Jmbo March 03, 2012 for Model Number MED5600TQ0 The light on the dryer works, but nothing else. Is it the timer? If not what else could it be? The power is on.
1 Answer Hello Jmbo. You will need to test the door switch WP3406107 and the thermal fuses located on the back of the dryer and make sure they are good. They should read closed for continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Bob January 20, 2012 for Model Number WED5600SQ0 When I set the timer on the energy preferred cycle and push the start button, the dryer starts for a second and then stops. The timed cycles work o.k. Do I need to replace the timer or is there something else that is causing this malfunction?
1 Answer Hello Bob. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly. Charles B. August 05, 2011 I ordered part #AP3136147 timer for Roper Dryer made by Whirlpool. I received part, but my old timer has a screw in front of timer with a little sliver of metal from housing, which this new one does not have. This is hidden under dial. Is this a necessary thing?
1 Answer Hello Charles. Usually, the screw and metal are not a part of the timer WP3979617. They are a part of the console. Try removing the old timer and see if the screw and metal can remain where they are. If not, it will be fine to run it without the parts. Hope this helps. Read More...
