Steve September 03, 2015 for Model Number TEDS840PQ0 Dryer seems to run o.k. but no heat. Is it the timer or thermostat? Thank you in advance.
1 Answer Hello Steve. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
John January 14, 2015 for Model Number Whirlpool Dryer Model wed5600sq0 Hello, Our dryer will only operate in 2 cool down settings.....clothes will never dry this way. Can you help us figure out what part we need Thanks
1 Answer John, If the unit will only run, meaning tumble in the cool down setting then it sound like the issue would be with the timer of the unit. If the unit tumbles in all settings but will not heat then check thermostats. Read More...
Mark T December 15, 2014 for Model Number WED5200v01 I have a whirlpool dryer the will heat and advance until it gets to the cool down stage where is cools but the timer never advances. The dryer will continue to run until it is stopped manually. Is this a timer or a bad thermostat. I've replaced the high limit thermostat and the cycling thermostat. What is needed?
1 Answer Mark, With this happening on the cool down stage and the cycling thermostat already being replaced. the issue would be with the timer of the unit. Read More...
Dan M November 20, 2014 for Model Number TEDS840PQ0 My "Estate By Whirlpool" dryer will not operate. When the door is opened the light comes on but when you hit the start button the only thing that happens is you get a single "click" noise from the timer. I took the back panels off and checked the power with the multimeter and power was fine. Removed wires from the thermal fuse and tested the continuity. Tested fine. Jumped the two wires going to the fuse and tried to bypass it to see if the dryer would operate and it wouldn't. I am now scratching my head. An appliance guy told me that it could be the timer, if so, it would be the second time in 6 years to be replaced. The last time the timer was replaced was because the dryer wouldn't shut off. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
1 Answer Dan, The first thing to check is the door switch to make sure that it has continuity when the door is closed. The light can work even with the switch being bad. This would be the most likely cause for the issue. Read More...
Carrie November 20, 2014 My dryer wont shut off and it has no heat. My repair man told me to buy a timer. He said it was part #3979617. Its for a rental so i hope the part number will give you the make and model.

Lou November 17, 2014 for Model Number TEDS840PQ0 Will not run but if I take timer knob off and apply pressure in different directions it will start until I release the pressure as it then stops running. Do I need a new timer if I apply a wood block to maintain pressure it runs and timer counts down to finish. I need a new timer correct?
Kyle March 16, 2014 for Model Number WED5600SQ0 My dryer keeps shutting off unexpectedly. Sometimes 2 minutes after turning it on; other times 20 minutes. This happens with both the Automatic Dry and Timed Drying settings. If I turn the timer knob with it running, it will hit areas in the rotation that cause it to stop running. I tried disconnecting the dryer vent as recommended in another answer to a similar question but it did not make a difference. Does it sound like the timer is going bad?
1 Answer Kyle, You will want to check the door strike to make sure that the door is not coming open slightly and causing the unit to shut off. Also check the switch as it could be making intermittent contact and shutting the unit down. The other thing that would cause this issue would be a faulty timer. Read More...
Tiffany February 04, 2013 for Model Number 3979617 My dryers Timer will not advance, The heat is working fine, but it never moves to stop a cycle. Do I need a new dryer timer or could it be a different problem?
1 Answer Hello Tiffany. If there is power to the timer motor, and it does not advance, you will replace the timer. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Ty November 17, 2012 for Model Number 3979617 My timer stays in one position and will not count down. Also even though the dryer will run with the timer in the on position it does not heat up. Could the timer cause the dryer to not heat up or do I also have an element problem?
1 Answer Hi. The timer part # WP3979617 does provide the heater circuit with half of its voltage. If the timer does not advance it may not be sending the needed power to the timer. Provide us with the model # for more assistance. Make sure the heating element is not open or the hi-limit and the thermal cut out is not open. Thank You. Read More...
1 Answer Hello John, This is not a difficult job. Disconnect the unit from the power supply and open the control panel. Remove the knob and the two screws from the back which hold the timer in position. Now hold the new timer next to the old timer and transfer one wire at a time from old timer to the new one so you don't cross any wires. Install the new timer in the position as the old one was previously. reinstall the control panel cover and re-establish the power to the unit. Put the knob back on and test it by running it.
