Hello Gary, thanks for reaching out to AppliancePartsPros.com
From that description it sounds like the capacitor 200832 has failed as well. Unfortunately, that part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available for purchase. The manufacturer does not list a compatible substitute or replacement part. You may be able to find a suitable replacement with a local repair shop or hardware store, but we would not be able to suggest a specific part #.

Keith,

Based on the information provided it sounds like the issue will be caused by a faulty timer on your unit.

Mike, Yes, the timer could have a faulty contact, and could create a similar situation. By raising the lid, you remove power from the circuit, when the lid is closed, the circuit is re established and the washer works.

Jim, If the washer doesn't drain completely, the water level switch circuit will not reset to empty, and will allow the neutral circuit to remain closed and the timer motor will continue to advance. You will need to check the pump and drauin hoses for clogs or damaged impeller. Remove the tub to pump hose and check the tub outlet opening for possible deposits, debris and blockage. disconnect the air pressure tube from the water level switch and blow into the tube, to clear any debris that may have built up in it.

John, If the noise is there from the time you pull out the timer knob, until it shuts off, it very well, could be the timer WP206686. If it's an intermittent noise, we'll need to know what part of the cycle it occurs, so we can advise you better. Thanks and Good Luck

Mary C. for Model Number Maytag Model A390 series 4 Heavy Duty Extra Capacity

Yesterday, the wash, rinse, spin cycle would not stop, but would continuously start up again. I could hear a ticking noise after the last spin cycle (when the machine would normally stop) and then the water started pouring into the machine again and it would spin and stop and start up again. Would replacing the timer fix this problem? Is it a normal problem with such an old (but in very good condition) machine? Thank you for your suggestions as to what is wrong.
