Bob, You will want to check to see if bearings have seized up which would cause this issue but also check to make sure that the drain pump WP6-2022030 is not seized up.

Debra, Replacing the WP22001530 timer is a good possibility, but before you replace it, check the lid and the lid switch assembly WP22001682 If there is too much movement in the lid, the lid switch plunger can get deactivated and cause the washer to stop. The check and adjust or replace the lid switch assembly WP22001682. You should be able to raise the lid approximately 1 inch, before you hear the lid switch "click" open.

Jimhat for Model Number LAT9205AAE

I've been working on my 1996 Maytag top loader which quit agitating. The problem finally turned out to be the #6 contact in the timer. I ordered a new timer from your company today. Upon taking the faulty timer apart, I see that the #6 metal contacts appear scorched and partially melted. Is this of concern when I install the new timer? It makes me wonder if some other component caused a high current event, yet I've determined that the motor, transmission, lid switches, and water level switch seem to be working just fine. On the other hand, maybe this "event" happened over time (the washer is 16 years old, after all). Should I be doing more testing before I start up the washer with its new timer? thanks

Jimhat, This issue would be something that can happen over a period of time in which the contacts are making and breaking.

Hello Bobbie. Make sure the water valve is good on the unit and lets in hot and cold water. If so, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the timer WP22001530 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
