The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the sequence of the wash cycles by regulating the various operations, such as filling, agitating, rinsing, and spinning, at the correct times.

Common causes of a faulty timer include electrical issues, wear and tear from extended use, or damage from moisture and corrosion.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The washing machine not advancing through cycles
  • The machine getting stuck on a specific part of the cycle
  • The timer knob not moving or advancing properly
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not starting at all

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18049110)

1 Answer

Tony, You will want to check for a restricted drain pump and also check to make sure that the water valve is not allowing water to come into the unit which would indicate a bad water valve.

Don for Model Number Whirlpool Washer WTW57ESVWO

My question relate to: Whirlpool Washer Model WTW57ESVWO. The washer does not fill in any cycle I set the timer on. It always begins agitating without filling. I can fill the tub with my garden hose and then the washer will proceed properly until it has to refill for rinse. Then I refill with garden hose and it finishes. History:1.. for quite some time when it was filling it would stop prior to the tub being full enough. I would then open the lid and close it. Then it would finish properly. 2.. I can only use the timer in one wash cycle. If I Used It on another cycle the timing would be messed up. It the timer bad?

Neska P for Model Number WTW57ESVW0 WHIRLPOOL

My washer stopped filling with water, only spinning in all cycles. No sounds when water was supposed to fill either. A technician said the pressure switch needed to be changed. Wanted $325. I saw videos and decided to try myself. Changed the switch, water began to fill in, I was turning the dial to different cycles, then let a cycle ran and problem returned decided to change timer, changed it and washer is still not working, only spins. Have no idea what to do now, I'm a woman, not very strong, was able to do that but not sure if I can handle anything more complex, specially since I have no idea what else to do.

Neska, The auto load sense switch is the most likely cause of this issue. The part number for this switch is WPW10292584. If this is the switch that you already replaced then it would most likely have failed.

Hello D.P., This would most likely be the temperature switch WPW10179666 causing this issue. You should pull the tech sheet and test some connections to prevent ordering parts for no reason.

Frank for Model Number WTW57ESVW1

The timer control knob on our top load Whirlpool Washer pulled out farther than normal when I turned it on. The washer filled up normally and washed, but when it got to the rinse cycle the water did not shut off. It filled it to almost full when I turned it off and then turned it on again. It rinsed and spinned but the spin cycle did not shut off and it kept spinning. I started to smell smoke and quick turned it off and unplugged it. The washer is only 5 years old. It may need a new timer control but what other damage could it have done since it was smoking?

1 Answer

Frank, This issue will most likely be only a timer issue. If the contacts in the timer are sticking then it could create a smoking issue.

Mark for Model Number WTW58ESVWO

Years ago went setting our washer to heavy soil on the regular wash cycle the timer would not advance and the machine would just keep agitating. So we found that if we just set it to just after "Regular" on the dial it worked fine. Well now it's a different issue, my wife started a load before doing to bed and when she got up the next morning the washer was still in the spin cycle. The dial stopped just short of the "Off" indicator. This is in the "Regular" wash cycle, if we set it to "Quick Wash" it works fine. So would this just be the timer that needs to be replaced?

1 Answer

Hello Mark. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the timer is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
