The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the sequence of the wash cycles by regulating the various operations, such as filling, agitating, rinsing, and spinning, at the correct times.

Common causes of a faulty timer include electrical issues, wear and tear from extended use, or damage from moisture and corrosion.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The washing machine not advancing through cycles
  • The machine getting stuck on a specific part of the cycle
  • The timer knob not moving or advancing properly
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not starting at all

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Power from the outlet enters the main control board, then the board converts the power to low voltage where needed and distributes the power to the components. Based on your post description, that's where you'd want to start checking.
