The starter pawl, also known as the recoil pawl, the starter dog, or the starter recoil pawl, is part of the starter assembly on small engines that use a pull-start operation. The pawl is engaged when pulling the starter rope and engaging the starter spring. Then, the pawl causes the flywheel to spin and start the engine. If this part breaks, the entire starter assembly can be affected. Leaving it unrepaired can cause further damage and require a full replacement of the entire starter system. This part is subject to repetitive motion, so it is known to wear down and break over time with regular use. This genuine OEM starter pawl is manufactured to exact standards by Tecumseh and can be used in their machines as well as those from Briggs & Stratton, Husqvarna, Toro, and Lawn-Boy. There are over 150 compatible models for this replacement part, including pressure washers, snow blowers, generators, and lawn mowers. This is a durable metal replacement pawl and it is sold as an individual unit. Be sure to disable the engine before taking apart or performing any work on the starter or its components.
This part is discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available for purchase.
