Scott W Rochester , NY April 22, 2017 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RF26XAEWP/XAA Evaporator ices up over time causes evaporator fan to wear out over time This is a design flaw with this refrigerator, so it will likely happen every few years. This is the second one I have replaced. Might not be a bad idea to completely thaw your fridge once a year to avoid this. The repair is simple. Unplug your fridge and open the top fridge doors. Remove all items, and take out all the shelves and drawers. Allow the fridge to thaw. Can take several hours, although you can speed this up with a hair dryer. Remove the evaporator cover assembly by taking out the 4 screws attaching it to the back of the fridge, then carefully pry it away starting with the bottom edge. There are some snaps along the side edges, so puts in from the side while pulling the edges up. Take care not to damage the styrofoam around the actual evaporator, but it is ok if you break the foam on the cover itself as you pull it free. If there is any ice remaining, you may have trouble pulling the cover off. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice before proceeding. Once the cover is loose, unplug the fan power and thermocouple per using the snap connectors in the upper left of the area behind the cover. Insert your new cover assembly, snap on the power connectors for the fan and thermocouple. Insert the new cover carefully starting by tilting the upper back edge into place at the top of the fridge. Apply pressure upwards from the bottom as you press the new cover into place working your way around the sides from the top down. Be careful not to break the foam on your new cover. After it is in place, insert the metal shelf bracket and reattach the four screws. Replace shelves and power on. Wait 15 minutes and check that the fridge compartment is cooling properly. Waldemar C Sterling Heights , MI August 13, 2018 Appliance: Model RF26AXERS Ice coming out from all holes of evaporator cover I read the similar problem resolution, viewed the video and decided to take a stab at fixing it. Purchased all the replaceable parts including the evaporator cover with the fan. Good thing since the ice bonded to the insulation of the old cover so most of the insulation was torn when the assembly cover was finally removed. Had a little difficulty removing the heater since it is held by slots in the shield but bending the shield made it easier to remove. Had all latest parts so splicing wires was not required. Tried to install the red and white clips the 3 harnesses on the table but that seemed to be impossible so I just plugged in each harness into the block and installed the clips. David M Attleboro Falls , MA April 18, 2016 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RF26XAEBP/XAA Samsung rf26xaebp/xaa refrigerator foam broken due to removing (many times) to melt ice After melting ice and removing old assembly just replaced with new assembly. Note: assembly was complete (ie, didn't have to transfer the fan or any of the other old parts - but did have to move the old chrome ring to the new assembly - quick and easy). Took about 30 minutes to empty the refrigerator, remove the shelving, remove the old assembly (ice was recently melted - so came off easily), and then install the new assembly.
