Stephen H Columbia , SC January 22, 2017 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RF268ABPN/XAA-0000 Samsung fridge wasn't making ice in upper icemaker This appears to be a weak spot on these refrigerators; the left-door ice maker will stop making (or at least consistently making) ice. Instead, an ice dam is created, which builds up in the ice maker corridor, making even getting the slide-in bucket nearly impossible to remove. The ice also freezes up the ice making tray, which therefore cannot drop the ice cubes. Generally, two things may go wrong which lead to this issue. The first is the ice-making assembly; its electrical components can get wonky, and it will stop working properly. Essentially, the unit will attempt to drop the ice cubes but fails, and then new water is supplied, which of course cannot go where intended (the ice-making tray). The water will just go where ever it can, and will promptly begin the ice-dam-making process. The solution is simple; purchase a new assembly and pop it in. The hardest part of this process typically is ice-dam removal. However, once that's completed, the installation process is pretty straight-forward, and is covered in a number of places revealed by a Google search. The other issue (this is the one I ended up having) is a faulty water inlet valve. This is a unit located at the back of the fridge, and is responsible for getting water to the various areas of the fridge (i.e. ice-makers and filter). It was apparent that the water tube providing water to my ice-maker was leaking. A constant drip every few seconds led to the obvious; a build-up of water that resulted in the same ice-dam phenomenon. Fortunately, the fix is as simple as the ice-maker assembly, although you must pull your fridge away from the wall in order to access the valve assembly area. On my fridge, it's on the lower-right (when looking at the rear of the fridge). Removal and replacement are pretty self-evident. This corrected the leaking water at the ice-maker, and along with a new ice-maker assembly, I plan on having flawless ice-making from the door ice-maker for years to come! Best of luck to those who have this issue; I hope the above proves helpful.
