Upright frost free freezer would not keep food frozen (Frigidaire name plate but made by (Electrolux) testing determined the refrigeration system worked but it would not defrost. Kenton K. • Chanhassen , MN • May 31, 2020
Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. Part Number: 216822900
The Door switch is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This part turns the light on/off as the door opens and closes.
Causes of a faulty door switch include normal wear of electrical contacts from repetitive on/off cycles. Moisture exposure may potentially corrode internal connections.
Symptoms of a bad light/switch include:
- The interior light fails to turn on when the door is opened
- The light stays on when the door is closed, leading to potential overheating
- An impact on the refrigerator’s temperature regulation due to the switch not signaling the door's closure
This Frigidaire OEM replacement part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and some Kenmore models.

Freezer did not function and the control board displayed nonsense characters Kemper B. • Rockwood , TN • November 21, 2014
I unplugged the freezer, removed the old control board by prying it out with my hands and then pressed in the new control board with my hands. The freezer functioned normally after it was plugged into the wall outlet again. Someone with large hands or short fingernails might benefit from the use of a straight blade screwdriver while prying out the broken control board.
