It was a possibility that the door switch in the freezer was causing the problem or the main power board. I started with the least expensive part first. The door switch didn't solve the problem so I ordered the main power board. The install was pretty simple and seems to have fixed the problem. The refrigerator has been working great so far.

At first I read the error code as 5Y CE. Googled that and found a number of distressed pleas for the same interpretation. Finally I found a technician/interpreter of mysterious codes who enlightened me: SY CE means there is a communication error between the display board and the main power control board.
Meanwhile, we had unplugged it, waited 10 or 15 minutes, then plugged it back in, The refrigerator responded like a computer reboot and started working again. No error code! We bump knuckled...

Evaporator fan would not run. I replaced the evaporator fan, but that did not fix it until i replaced the main board (power board). the board is underneath on the left side with one screw holding it. I figured there was only one main board but there are multiple; you have to read descriptions to get the correct one.
