We ordered a new magnetron for our GE profile Advantium and watched a YouTube video https://youtu.be/o3-IKLa_ajI. When the microwave started making weird noises and blew out, the mica cover was burnt. It was easy to replace inside the oven. The microwave had to be pulled out of the wall to get to the light bulbs and magnetron. Read more
Followed the suggestions and washed off the wave guide cover first (it had some food soil on it). Put it back on and tried operating the microwave with nothing in it. Got a real big spark then. Discovered that there were some areas on the door that had paint scraped off. Looked like the power was all directed to this bare metal area causing the mica wave guide cover to really scorch then, with nothing else inside the microwave to absorb the energy. Ordered Turn Table Shaft and replaced the broken one…very simple…only had to remove one screw to get to the part. Read more
With no power in the unit I started to investigate. I removed the power cord and checked the supply. Then I removed a few panels from the unit. The parts are readily accessible and the wiring diagrams on the computer are very helpful. I removed the wires from each device and the probed the devices. Replaced turntable. The axels of the small wheels on the turn table degraded after hard usage (20 minutes of near continuous use on small tasks). They would now spark and smoke with noxious fumes. Trivial solution: replace the turn table (the wheels don't seem to be replaceable). Read more
