Was making a squeaking/squealing on start up Gerald G. • Nashua , NH • March 20, 2016
My GE dryer from the late 80's/early 90's was squealing when it would start up, belt or bearing I was thinking. I found a manual online that covered my model and I watched a video on this site that showed me how to take it all apart, mine was a bit different but the principles were the same. I took it apart and added some quick-disconnects to 2 wires so next time I can take the front panel off easily. When I got to the bearing it looked worn but not bad so I cleaned it and put it back. ...

"Squeaking dryer" Bob D. • Scottsdale , AZ • December 13, 2020
A few months back I changed out the "Bearing Slides" on the front side of the drum thinking that would stop the annoying squeaking every time we use the dryer. They were very worn and one was missing. But to my dismay it only lessened it by about 10%. After doing a bit more research I discovered the "Rear Shaft Bracket Assembly" also needed replacement. Symptoms of a bad Blower Wheel include:
- Unusual noises during operation
- Extended drying times
- The dryer overheating
- Reduced air circulation
This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

The blower wheel creates the airflow necessary to circulate hot air and efficiently dry clothes.
Over time, clamps and screws can become loose or corroded due to regular use, vibrations, or exposure to moisture. Improper handling during maintenance or repairs can also lead to damage or loss of these small but essential parts.
Symptoms of a bad Clamp and Screw Kit include:
- Loose or rattling components within the dryer
- Parts becoming misaligned or detached
- Unusual noises during dryer operation
- Difficulty in securing dryer parts during repairs
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

This dryer motor kit powers the drum and blower. Replacing a weak or failed motor restores proper tumbling and airflow so the dryer starts reliably and dries loads more evenly.
- Drives the drum via the belt and turns the blower wheel for airflow
- Helps resolve: dryer hums but won't start, drum won't turn, or stops mid-cycle
- Can reduce loud buzzing/grinding noises from the motor area
- Restores consistent operation when the motor overheats and trips its protector
What's included: 1 drive motor Install notes:
- Disconnect power; turn off gas supply to gas dryers before servicing
- Remove panels to access the drive system; release belt tension and remove the drum as needed
- The blower wheel threads onto the motor shaft—support it carefully; many GE dryers use a reverse (left-hand) thread
- Transfer wiring and any reusable hardware to the new motor; test before reassembly

It appears that a repairman in the past had removed the large washers and over time, the screw heads reamed out the hole, causing the baffles to detach and break. In about 15 minutes, I was able to tighten up the existing baffle and add the two new ones. I also added the 6 big washers to help strengthen this to prevent future issues.
