Soap dispenser door won't open? This dishwasher wax motor actuator controls detergent release. Moderate DIY repair, takes 2 minutes to activate.
Took door off, saw that dispenser linkage was ok, I could open and close by hand, so figured the wax motor or the wiring to it were most likely the problem. I took off the wax motor ( actuator) and ran 120 volts to it via jumper wires, and it did not move at all, so figured good chance that was the problem. Counterbalances your dishwasher door for smooth opening and closing. Replace if cracked, broken, or fatigued to prevent door from dropping or slamming.
So I noticed a few months ago that the dishwasher door felt a lot heavier than it used to. Then just recently I opened it and heard something snap and the door came crashing down onto my foot! Ouch!! The door was still able to close but opening it required it being fully lowered by hand. I had no idea how heavy the dishwasher door was! So I got down onto the kitchen floor with a flashlight.
