Opened up the washer to see where the smoke was coming from. The culprit was a black cylinder with 2 wires running to it. After enough googling I figured out it was a capacitor for the motor. The video was quite helpful with step by step instructions. I ordered a belt and idler pulley before dismantling assuming they were the issues. Belt was easy and fit fine but I did not realize the idler pulley was secured with a special fastener, push on cap nut, that would be damaged if removed. So I left it in place. Original pulley seemed fine so I reassembled the dryer. Restarted and of course the noise remained. I ordered the push on fastener and also the drum bearing as a precaution. ... Read more
