The Ice Deflector Spring is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. This spring is a crucial component of the ice dispensing system, specifically in selecting between crushed and whole ice cubes. It is designed to always force the diverter back in a way that the cubes get crushed. When whole cubes are selected, the solenoid pulls the lever against the spring’s tension to shift the configuration, allowing cubes to bypass the crusher blades.

When I took it apart I found that the drive cup was cracked, the helix lock plate hole was reamed out and the ice deflector spring was broken. The biggest problem was the helix had slipped down the shaft and allowed the end of the shaft to bore a hole in the housing which made it a bear to get out. Others have had the same problem. When we inspected the first time we found that Plactic had broken from the spiral part that for wards the ice. Also there were cracks in two places of other parts. Replaced the parts. Initially, in order to ensure the ice maker itself was still working, I did some repairs to test it.
