Oven won't light or ignites with a loud pop? A faulty igniter is usually the cause. Simple DIY fix—disconnect two screws and wire nuts to replace.
My Tappan Range, which I paid a grand total of $65.00 for, and have been using since Katrina, (Katrina in 2005 is how we measure time in South Mississippi.) I live in an old house, and I am old, too. Last winter was the coldest I can remember, and my husband (older than I and far more hard-headed) used the oven like a heater. I read all user's manuals, because I use only used stuff, I can download the manuals or read them online, and it clearly stated in there NOT to use the oven as a... Read more

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old... This igniter creates the spark needed to light gas burners on your range cooktop. It generates an electric arc that ignites the gas flow when you turn the burner control knob. Replace this part if burners won't light, take multiple attempts to ignite, or produce weak clicking sounds without lighting.
My 18+ year old Jennair cooktop, PN CCG2520W was in need of a rebuild b/c of a welded venturi tube on the right front [RF] burner. In order to remove the glass top cover, you MUST remove the venturi tube. To do this you have to DRILL-OUT the venturi tube which requires a new venturi and orifice holder. The repair was difficult b/c most of the parts are no longer available. But then I found a ray-of-hope. I was able to find some Jennair (Maytag) parts but they are scarce. Later I found... Read more

Oven won't light even with glowing igniter? Safety valve controls gas flow to burner. Moderately easy repair with gas line disconnect required.
My tenant thought that the oven safety valve was bad, but after some research, I found that the transfer of heat from the igniter had to be sufficient enough to cause the valve to open.Your agent confirmed this and reassured me that even if the igniter was glowing, there was a 99% chance that it wasn't getting hot enough. I ordered the igniter, and also the safety valve just in case, as we were going to be fixing this on Christmas eve, so the oven could be used for Christmas dinner. Your agent... Read more

Bought a Thermador PRSE48" dual fuel range from Craigslist really cheap because it didn't work. Did a little research and decided to overhaul most of the top (gas) end. For what I paid for it it was worth it and I'd have a good stove with new components. Replaced the griddle thermostat, ignition micro switches, ignition re-igniter box, installed fixing kit with 2 new potentiometers, both solenoids, and gas regulator. Had to replace 2 gas lines, all 4 jets, and one brass nut that were... Read more

If your oven won't turn on or takes several minutes to light, the igniter is likely failing. This flat Norton style igniter typically takes 30 minutes to replace.
The hardest part was getting the gas valve to turn. An old all metal one from the 1950s located in a narrow space that usually holds a drawer. Finally got it to turn using a crescent wrench on the metal part that turns and a pipe wrench to hold the valve still. Then it was smooth sailing except for stripping the wires on the short bit attached to the oven. Had no desire to pull the oven out of the wall, so made it happen. Turned the gas and power back on and presto the oven lights again. The... Read more
