I did replace the controls for the knob - which I researched was likely the problem from the internet and youtube videos. The repair itself was very easy - did it all in 20 minutes. Another video recommended disconnecting each wire from old knob and then inserting it in new knob control. I thought this was a very good tip - while it was more logistically a pain - keeping the two knobs so close, not dangling on pulling on wires, etc....
