Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Evaporate motor went out on my Whirlpool refrigerator freezing cold at the bottom but warm on top   Toan N. • Anaheim , CA • June 24, 2018

When I first found out that the evaporator fan doesn't work, I went to a local home appliances store to buy one , cost me $40 , real easy to replace it and it solves the main problem , but this evaporator motor was making some loud noise every now and then , especially when we open the door too often. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Some of the ball bearings in our existing glides had come out and we now had metal grinding on metal making it very difficult to open and close the freezer door   Sherri F. • Princeville , HI • October 31, 2014

I am a true DIY girl, and this repair wasn't terribly difficult, although it took some analysis and time to figure out and complete the installation. Appliance Parts Pros often has helpful videos, but I couldn't find anything for this part, and there were no instructions included. First, I removed the two baskets/drawers from the bottom freezer compartment. Then, I removed the left and right cradles (which hold the upper freezer basket), and lastly, after pressing the plastic release clip on... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Big Kitchenaid built in would not defrost cold freezer warm frig   Thomas S. • Los Altos , CA • June 02, 2018

Ordered and replaced defrost timer and bimetal defrost switch. Defrosted the freezer coils. Got to timer on top of unit. Removed timer. NO instructions with new timer!! Ohmed new timer to figure what the loose timer wire tied to. Compared to schematic and decided on connecting it to 2 (pink). Put it all together along with the bimetal switch. Checked continuity of heaters. Seemed to be cooling properly but could not hang around for a defrost cycle. Will check again soon to... Read more
