I recently shattered the outer glass on my Whirlpool oven door. (Side note for lesson learned...don't swat at a fly with a broom when its on the oven door. I didnt swing hard just a love tap but thats all it took ha ha) The toughest part of the fix was removing the broken glass as it had shattered into hundreds...no thousands of pieces. I replaced the hinges, which involved removing the door by opening it all the way, inserting a small allen wrench into the locking pin hole on each of the two hinges, partially closing the door and pulling it toward me. I then laid the door stainless steel face up on a table, removed the 8 screws from the edge and pulled the bottom of the face up and toward me. Replaced both hinges... simple repair, took about 20 minutes. My only issue is that I replaced these hinges a year and a half ago to repair the same problem. Seems like Whirlpool could have designed a better door. Read more

Whirlpool convection oven. Access to convection element from inside. Three screws to remove plate covering fan blade. Then one screw to remove element bracket. I placed tape over the holes with the wires so they wouldn’t pull back into the panel. Remove old element at tabs and replace. Very easy fix. Removing door to oven made it easier to get to but not necessary. Read more

I replaced the magnetron and diode. I don't know if the diode was bad, but since the majority of the work was taking the case apart, I figured it was easier to do it at the same time as the magnetron. The replacement magnetron I received was dented at the emitter end, but seems to work fine. I read up on others with this problem of microwave-wall oven combination Whirlpool Gold. We live in a very rural area and were not able to get ANYONE to service it - had 2 companies come out to inspect but they never returned. I have wonderful news! Replaced the magnetron, capacitor and diode. Symptoms of failure were change in tone/noise put out by the microwave and no heat in the item being microwaved. Could have been a failure of either the diode, capacitor or the magnetron, but I believe it was the magnetron that failed. Replaced all three. The right hand side of the housing needs to be removed to access these parts. Take lots of pictures for reference as it all comes apart, wiring, placement of the various screws, etc. Not an easy...
