Microwave not heating or making loud humming noise? The diode converts AC to DC power for the magnetron. Moderate difficulty repair, 1-2 hours.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Microwave not working; would not heat Jeff S. • Hope , IN • July 11, 2016
Replaced Magnetron and diode. Fixed problem and microwave workso again. Very time consuming because of microwave/oven built-in combo. Not easy to get to parts that needed to be replaced. Still cheaper to repair than to replace.

This line fuse protects the appliance's incoming power circuit by opening if an overload or short occurs. Replacing a blown fuse can help restore power once the underlying issue is corrected, preventing further damage to sensitive components.
- Interrupts line voltage when excessive current or a short circuit is detected
- Typical symptoms: unit completely dead, no display or interior lights, won't start or run
- Fuse tests open/no continuity with a multimeter when blown
- A blown fuse often points to another fault that must be addressed
What's included: One line fuse Install notes:
- Disconnect power at the breaker/unplug before servicing; microwaves contain high-voltage parts that can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged
- Replace only with the same type and rating as the original fuse
- Ensure the fuse seats firmly in its holders; do not bypass or jumper a fuse

Broken outer glass on lower oven door James F. • Durham , NC • May 03, 2015
I recently shattered the outer glass on my Whirlpool oven door. (Side note for lesson learned...don't swat at a fly with a broom when its on the oven door. I didnt swing hard just a love tap but thats all it took ha ha) The toughest part of the fix was removing the broken glass as it had shattered into hundreds...no thousands of pieces. Thankfully it was taped on the inside and that held some of it together. I placed the door in our garbage can and put on a pair of gloves with a scraper to...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Oven not heating. Randy M. • Fort Wayne , IN • September 10, 2019
Whirlpool convection oven. Access to convection element from inside. Three screws to remove plate covering fan blade. Then one screw to remove element bracket. I placed tape over the holes with the wires so they wouldn’t pull back into the panel. Remove old element at tabs and replace. Very easy fix. Removing door to oven made it easier to get to but not necessary.

This ground screw secures the appliance's grounding wire or strap to the chassis or terminal area, creating a reliable bonding point. Replace a missing or damaged screw to restore a proper ground connection during installation or service.
- Provides the designated bonding point for the grounding wire/strap
- Fastens to the frame or terminal area using 8-32 machine threads
- Helps maintain a consistent ground path for safe operation
- Typical reasons to replace: stripped head/threads, corrosion, or a missing screw
What's included: 1 ground screw Install notes:
- Disconnect power at the breaker or unplug the appliance before servicing
- Route the ground wire/strap to the specified grounding location
- Start threads by hand to avoid cross-threading; tighten snugly without overtightening
- Ensure the ground connection is secure and complies with local electrical codes before restoring power

This time-delay fuse protects the appliance's power circuit by opening when current exceeds a safe level while tolerating brief inrush current. Replacing a blown fuse can help restore power once the root cause is corrected. What it does:
- Protects the line and control circuits from shorts and overloads
- Time-delay design helps prevent nuisance opening during startup surges
- When open, the unit will be completely dead—no display, lights, or response
- Repeatedly opening usually indicates an unresolved electrical fault that needs diagnosis
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; some appliances can retain dangerous high voltage
- Replace only with the same type and rating specified by the manufacturer
- Inspect the fuse holder and wiring for heat damage or loose connections before reassembly
- If the new fuse opens immediately, stop and diagnose the underlying cause; never bypass or upsize a fuse

Microwave stated ‘door open’ and would not work. Margo D. • Tarpley , TX • March 17, 2019
I read up on others with this problem of microwave-wall oven combination Whirlpool Gold. We live in a very rural area and were not able to get ANYONE to service it - had 2 companies come out to inspect but they never returned. I have wonderful news! We replaced the fuse, bus fuse, and light bulb (quit working 2 years ago) and all is working. Thanks for the information and for the part diagram. Couldn't have done it without you.

Our Whirlpool Accubake system microwave which is part of the cabinet combo stopped heating and the interior light stopped working. Darnell W. • Uxbridge , MA • October 23, 2021
I love the videos produced by your organization. They may not cover the exact appliance, however, they provide insight into safety and concepts in approaching the job.
Disassembly, removing, and replacing the magnetron, capacitor, diode, and light bulb, which took about 3 hrs from start to finish resulted in a working microwave with light. The rep that answer questions and checked my parts prior to ordering was a confidence builder. I never attempted a job like this before. Yet, with...
