Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. Tested the High Voltage Capacitor which showing no capacitance and no resistance. Replaced it together with the diode and the line fuse no longer blew and the microwave is back in service. Read more

Replaced the magnetron, capacitor and diode. Symptoms of failure were change in tone/noise put out by the microwave and no heat in the item being microwaved. Could have been a failure of either the diode, capacitor or the magnetron, but I believe it was the magnetron that failed. Replaced all three. The right hand side of the housing needs to be removed to access these parts. Take lots of pictures for reference as it all comes apart, wiring, placement of the various screws, etc. Not an easy...
