The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. At first, I suspected the evaporator fan motor was going bad, but when I went in to check it out, I found the evaporator coils totally frozen up; the fan was cavitating. Detergent cup not opening during wash cycle? This actuator lever connects the timer to the dispenser lid. Moderate DIY repair, about 35 minutes.

I did some research online to pinpoint what the clicking noise was - discovered it was the relay switch. Very simple repair - after I removed the back panel on fridge I located the relay mounted on side of the compressor. It came off easily. This is a plastic trim rail that attaches to the inside of the freezer door to hold a door shelf bin in place. It serves as a retaining bracket that keeps the bin securely mounted so items stored in the door don't shift or fall.
