Easy, after I found out the stop is removed by inserting a small screwdriver in the notch in the side, and that the stop is removed by pushing down on it rather than up, like you would normally think. There was some residue left in the bottom hole which had to be dug out with my pocket knife, before inserting the new stop. I discovered that the rear portion of the control housing, the condensate collector which diverts the water through the back panel into the drain line, had broken. To remove the housing there is one screw centered towards the front which must be removed, then a screw at each end of the control face which only need to be loosened. I determined that the most likely culprit was the Damper unit malfunctioning. So I went on line searching for a new one. My refrigerator is 12 years old, so it wasn't easy to find one. Appliance parts pro had it and the cost was comparative to what Maytag wanted. I chatted with the parts rep. and emailed back and forth a few times before deciding that I could replace this part.
