I had a problem with the drain pump on my Kenmore HE3 and I replaced it using a drain pump I ordered from APP. Fixing the problem was quite simple. First, I removed the lid assembly (thanks to the diagrams supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com!). Getting the back two screws out was very difficult because I couldn't see them from the front and I could not move the unit out of the enclosed space. After some trial and error, I located the screws which were 5/16 hex head screws and removed them with a MAGNETIC nut driver. First I looked at the many you tube vids, and there are many. appliance parts pros pretty much shows you how to deal with the parts. I changed the brake shoes and the clutch assembly which also comes with the driver cam. I also changed the metal brake operating cam. I think that brake lockup or improper brake release was the problem that broke the plastic cam driver. This was the broken plastic part making all the ticking noise. - Didn't see any other leaks in machine. No grinding transmission noise. Assumed seal on transmission shaft was bad, since it was a central leak down the rotor. It was a little more difficult to dissemble than the video showed, but not too bad. Got it all back together and seems to be working well. No leaks yet. Didn't need washer in parts diagram - was already on the transmission. Also the drain pump filter was not necessary, it can just be cleaned. Read more

Weekend laundry became very noisy, our 1987 Whirlpool washer began doing a dance across the floor and the drum was banging into the inner cabinet.
