Missing plastic clip on lid switch was the problem. Replaced plastic clip, washer operates good as new. Pliers are needed to seat the plastic piece securely onto the lid switch. Read more
The video was very helpful. the hardest part is getting off old rusted parts. I had to use a hacksaw to remove one of the old clamps. I had to open the bottom of the washing machine to remove of the other clamp. Putting the new parts on was easy. Getting everything apart was a challenge. This transmission and brake assembly includes the tub seal and is used on many General Electric top load washers.
Replaced transmission and brake assembly. The video on appliancepartspros.com was very helpful. A few comments: 1) On my model, there was no wiring harness to unhook to detach the lid switch, as was shown on the video. Instead, I had to remove the switch itself. Underneath, one of the short edges of the switch has a clip that you depress, and then you can poke the switch up. Pulled front panel off. Unbolted and removed top cover. Removed tub trim cover. Removed and replaced gasket and dampers. Put it a back together took about 20 minutes Read more
We were taping our broken tub ring so it could at least last for a couple of more washes but no the water would come out and the washer would start to bounce! I knew we had to order a new tub ring but where and when would it get here. I have to wash everyday for a family of 9! I searched online and found this website. It was so easy to find the part. Wife calls - it's broke. Home from work, immediately suspected clutch, V-belt or similar. Could hear the motor running. Founda video on youtube showing how to remove front panel. Looked. Sure enough, motor runs - nothing else turns. Figured the clutch was fragged. Order new clutch. When it arrives, pull the old one off.
