Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Did not drain faulty pump   Angela T. • Madison , SD • September 08, 2014

I've never fixed a major appliance, so I was quite proud to be able to fix our washing machine. My husband likes to hire repairmen for such issues, but I like to avoid the cost if at all possible. First, I searched online for the cause of the washer not draining. Forums and youtube videos informed me that it was either a faulty pump or clogged hoses. After watching some DIY videos, I removed the front panel which revealed a fairly simple setup inside: a big tub, the motor, and a pump with two... Read more

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Drum Roller Axle include:

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dryer squealing on startup   Sandy R. • Manhattan , KS • September 08, 2015

I replaced the belt, belt tension pulley, both dryer drum roller axles and both drum support rollers. Although I bought 2 tumbler bearing kits, because those still look good I am saving them for when they go bad. The videos were fantastic! I also took pictures as I went of wiring so there would be no question where things went when reassembling. It should be noted some models have extra terminals near the sensor terminals... just be aware and look closely/take pics as you are taking things... Read more

Genuine Whirlpool part

It includes all necessary components to repair the mounting stem, which is a critical part of the washer's tub support system. Comes with the hub assembly, seal, and spanner nut. 6-2040130 should also be replaced at the same time. A spanner wrench is required to complete the repair TB123B.

Symptoms of a bad mounting stem include:

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leakage from tub seal   Gabriel S. • Petaluma , CA • March 15, 2015

I ordered the tub seal and stem seal kits along with the much needed spanner wrench. After viewing the video online several times and taking notes along the way I was ready to tackle the repair. After taking everything apart, I cleaned all areas thoroughly then addressed the rusty areas and mineral deposits found in the tub. Soaking the tub in vinegar and baking soda overnight helped loosen the built up deposits enough so I could carefully scrape them off with a spatula. This was very time... Read more

Brake Assembly
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP6-2011900

The Brake Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component plays a crucial role in stopping the washer drum from spinning at the end of the spin cycle. It ensures that the drum comes to a complete stop, allowing for safe unloading of laundry and preventing potential damage to the machine. Brake removal tool: TJ038315

Over time, the brake assembly can wear out or become damaged due to frequent use and the stresses of stopping a spinning drum. If the brake assembly fails, it can lead to issues with the washer’s spin cycle and overall performance.

Symptoms of a bad brake assembly include:

  • The drum not stopping quickly after the spin cycle
  • Loud noises or grinding sounds during or after the spin cycle
  • The washer shaking or vibrating excessively
  • Clothes remaining too wet after the spin cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You After a process of elimination it turned out to be the brake assembly   Ken M. • Pierson , MI • September 13, 2016

I first replaced the two drive belts and the motor springs. That didn't fix it although they did need replacing. I then replaced the two bearings and the brake assy. The washer runs like new. If you replace the brake assembly, you should also replace the bearings. It will save a tear down later on. The Maytag repairman wanted $600.00 dollars to do the job. I did it for less than $200.00. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water leak from 1986 Maytag washing machine   Michael C. • Petaluma , CA • February 08, 2019

I removed the front cover and saw water a rusted out drum cover clamp. Water gushed out at this point when i operated the machine. I ordered a new clamp and seal from Appliance Parts Pros, which arrived quickly. I wire-brushed the drum and it's cover clean, in the sealing area and installed the new seal and clamp. NOTE do not set the cover down all the way down, or the tub will not "spin". Leave 3/8- 1/2" clearance between the top of the tub and the upper cover. I chose to fix my old... Read more

Washer
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP314158

This small hardware washer serves as a spacer/bearing surface within appliance assemblies to distribute load and maintain proper clearance. Replacing a worn washer helps restore smooth operation and alignment of the affected control or mechanism. What it does:

  • Distributes fastener load and protects mating surfaces
  • Maintains correct spacing to prevent rubbing or binding
  • Provides a smooth bearing surface to reduce friction and noise
  • Common symptoms when worn or missing: looseness, scraping sounds, difficult or rough turning, misalignment
What's included:
  • 1 washer
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power; shut off gas or water if applicable
  • Note the stack order and orientation before removal
  • Inspect the mating fastener/shaft for wear and replace related parts if damaged
  • Reassemble and tighten fasteners snugly—do not overtighten—then test for smooth operation

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dryer paddle fell off due to stripped screws   Morgan D. • Woodinville , WA • July 29, 2021

This was my first ever self appliance repair. The videos provided by Appliance Parts Pros were excellent and gave me the confidence to do the work myself. My Maytag dryer model opened differently than the one in the videos. I had to remove the front panel and screwing in the paddle required reaching way back and working in a small space where I couldn't see what I was doing. It was uncomfortable but doable with a nut driver and a bit of elbow grease. The part fit perfectly and it looks good as... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The 220 volt cable was installed without the proper grommet the sharp edge of the dryer housing wore thru the insulation of the cable and almost caused a fire   Rainer R. • Osceola , WI • December 13, 2016

I had to replace the terminal block due to the 220 volt ark. A small fire at the bottom of the dryer caused the belt to partially burn. I had to replace it along with the 220 volt dryer cable. If the local hardware store would have taken the time to install the dryer with an additional 0.50 cent grommet, this could have been avoided. Thank you for sending the correct parts. This was the second time I had to use your service and I will continue to use it in the future. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My 20 year old maytag washer was knocking durring the wash cycle   Dennis K. • Antioch , CA • November 15, 2015

I took the cover off the transmission and determined that the only possible knocking had to be coming from the yoke. I ordered a new yoke and all the tub seals needed to put it back together like new. I also ordered a new drive pulley bearing because this bearing is always turning whenever the washer is used. I cleaned all the parts up while I was waiting for the new parts to arrive. I promised my wife I would make it look like new. I installed all the new parts in one day and let the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Making loud squealing sound when dryer was turned on   Michael M. • Plainfield , IL • November 19, 2018

Took the front panel off (the door front), disconnected the connector to the door switch and used a wooden clothespin to bypass the door switch. Turned on the dryer to locate loud squeaking sound and found it was coming from the motor area. When I started to take the blower section apart from the motor, that is when I saw the "blower wheel" slipped off the motor shaft. The blower wheel has a "C" clip retainer and compression ring to keep it snug on the motor shaft (but it was loose). Now I... Read more
