The ice dispenser door was not closing tightly. As a result, there was frost build up in the ice chute, which also was allowing ambient air and temperature into the freezer compartment. Upon further inspection, there was black “schmutz” on the ice door, and the rubber ice funnel and deflector parts were deteriorating. Replace the auger. GE makes this as hard as possible. You have to disassemble almost all of the ice tray mechanism to get the auger out. One tip is that you can unscrew the plastic nut holding the auger in place using a putty knife without having to remove the C-clip holding the plastic nut itself in place. Having my model number, it was very easy to find the part I needed. Ordered it. Removed glass, and two screws, to take the whole lowest shelf assembly off. Replaced the broken bracket. Reinstalled. I saw my old one had some foam rubber adhered to it and the new one did not have any. Does not seem to be a problem. Read more
