Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Yes ice was not coming out of the dispenser   Jason S. • Goose Creek , SC • December 02, 2014

I replaced the solenoid, door, spring and bucket. The bucket cracked from ice freezing inside it. Ice froze inside the bucket because the solenoid stopped pulling the door closed which allowed hot humid air into the freezer. While I was in there I replaced the dispenser door, spring and crank because they are cheap and the old ones were moldy. The mold is most likely from the door not closing and causing condensation on the parts as well. Read more

I ordered a new solenoid and when it arrived, I installed it as follows: I cut the power to the refrigerator. I then pulled off the rubber boot (and it's plastic frame) that covers the water switch. Then I removed the bezel that covers the front of the ice maker controls by pulling it straight out. Then I removed the four screws found on the assembly under the bezel. After pulling the assembly forward a bit, I detached the multi-wire connector attached to it and put the assembly aside.... Read more

Water Inlet Valve (Ice Maker)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR57X10024

This water inlet valve controls the flow of household water into the refrigerator's ice maker during fill cycles. Replacing a sticking or leaking valve restores proper ice fills and helps prevent nuisance leaks at the back of the unit. What it does:

  • Opens when energized to supply water to the ice maker, then closes to stop flow
  • Common symptoms: no ice production, weak/empty fills, or leaking from the rear valve area
  • Ice maker overfilling or fill-tube icing from a valve that doesn't fully close
  • Humming/buzzing from the valve with little or no water flow
What's included:
  • 1 water inlet valve assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off the water supply before servicing
  • Pull the refrigerator forward to access the rear; place a towel to catch residual water
  • Transfer any mounting bracket/tubing from the old valve and secure all connections firmly
  • Restore water and power, then check every connection for leaks while the ice maker cycles

Dispenser Crank (Ice Door Arm)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR17X3089

This dispenser crank links the dispenser solenoid and the ice chute door. When you press the dispenser lever, the crank pivots to open and close the ice door so cubes or crushed ice can dispense cleanly without warm air leaking into the freezer.

  • Connects the solenoid to the ice chute door to control door movement
  • Helps seal the chute when not dispensing to reduce frost and moisture issues
  • Common failure signs include ice door not opening/closing, constant frost around chute, or warm/moist air leakage at dispenser
  • Can cause ice clumping, frost buildup, or water/ice dispensed irregularly when worn or broken
What's included: 1 dispenser crank Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing the dispenser area
  • Access typically requires removing the dispenser front panel and trim; use care with plastic tabs and wiring
  • Note linkage orientation to the solenoid and door flap before removal
  • Inspect related parts for wear while open

Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR07X10099

This PTCR is the compressor's start device for select refrigerators. It helps the compressor start smoothly by momentarily boosting the start winding, then automatically reduces current as the motor reaches speed.

  • Provides initial start assist to the compressor, then self-resets
  • A failing PTCR can cause clicking, repeated start attempts, warm temperatures, or the compressor not running
  • Helps protect the compressor by limiting inrush current during startup
What's included: One PTCR start device only Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; allow components to cool
  • Note wire positions and orientation before removal
  • Inspect compressor terminals for heat damage and ensure firm connections
  • If the old device shows signs of overheating, also check the overload and wiring

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refrigerator not getting cold at all and everything thawing out compressor clicking   Victor F. • West Milford , NJ • June 15, 2015

I researched the problem and determined that the only thing that can cause this was compressor bad or not starting.
