It is difficult (if not impossible) to remove the electronic switches from the hard plastic latches. I replaced all three switches and both the upper and lower latches I also replaced the main 20 amp ceramic fuse which blew out when the latch/switches failed. Read more

Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. This small spring is part of the door interlock system in your microwave, providing tension to the safety switch mechanism that detects whether the door is properly closed. It ensures the microwave will only operate when the door is securely latched. This is a light lens cover that fits over the surface light bulb housing on the underside of an over-the-range microwave. It protects the light bulb and diffuses light onto the cooktop below. Replace this cover if it is cracked, yellowed, missing, or if it no longer snaps securely into place.

I ordered a new magnetron and a new capacitor and after they arrived I set to work. I took plenty of pictures with my phone to remind me how the components came apart but it was pretty straight forward. Once the new parts were in and everything was reassembled the microwave worked good as new. The repair was less than a third the cost of replacement and no special tools are required. The grill vent is only held in place by two screws. Super simple fix. Remove the two screws and the old grill vent, position the new vent and put the two screws back in. Replacing the cord required that cabinet to be removed. Lots of screws on the back, top and bottom. Once the screws were removed, the cabinet pulled back.
