Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
The bake elements on my 2 side by side ovens were not working Judith S. • Philadelphia , PA • August 27, 2015
I ordered 2 bake elements and bulbs and was able to easily fix 1 of the ovens. The serviceman who repaired the left oven did not repair it correctly so, one of the wires was not accessible so, I could only fix one oven.
After shutting off the power, I EASILY fixed the right oven - with a LOT of care and a little elbow grease - in disconnecting the broken element, by doing exactly as it said to in the video, making certain not to allow the wires to slip back into the hole that it was pulled...

Whirlpool glass top burner replacement James F. • Fort Lauderdale , FL • March 21, 2015
It was a simple process to enter the model number of our glass cook top stove; learn the part number required and order. It arrived in 2-days -- least expensive shipping method.
The cooktop was removed with a Phillips-head screwdriver by 4 small sheet metal screws on the right and left side of the oven.
The oven's power to the cooktop was easily disconnected via two "clips" and one ground.
Would have cost way more with an appliance repair shop and it's an easy do-it-yourself repair.

Genuine Whirlpool part

Part Number: WP661416
The bake element is the oven's primary lower heat source. Replacing a failed element restores proper preheating and even baking performance when the oven won't heat or struggles to maintain temperature during the bake cycle. What it does
- Provides the main heat for the bake cycle in electric ovens
- Common failure symptoms: no heat on bake, very slow preheat, or uneven baking
- Visible damage such as blistering, cracks, or burn spots on the element indicates replacement is needed
- Helps the oven reach and hold set temperature when functioning correctly
What's included
Install notes
- Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing to prevent electrical shock
- Remove oven racks; access the element mounting screws from inside the oven cavity
- Carefully pull the element forward, support the wires, and transfer the connectors one at a time to avoid losing them behind the liner
- Ensure terminals are fully seated; do not overtighten mounting screws, then restore power and test bake
This part fixes the following symptoms
-
Little to no heat when baking

Malfunctioning defrost heater Robert R. • Asheville , NC • March 11, 2015
Total repair took slightly over 1 hour. Would have taken longer had I not already have taken the freezer apart on a previous occasion. Therefore I already knew the sequence and was able to disassemble it quickly. A little tricky getting the part out but easier to get it in. SImple repair for anyone mechanically inclined.

I wanted to get the upper oven baking element replaced; it hasn't been working for a few months. This double oven has had two other issues, there is a fan that comes on to cool the electronics panel, That fan has made excessive noise and it operates for 2-3 hours after the oven turns off. The other problem with the oven is the Self-Cleaning feature runs for about 15-30 minutes and then turns off with an error code. This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015
This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart.
