Removed bottom flame cover in lower oven to find the ignitor was actually broken into pieces. We assume it exploded because the bottom side of the cover had a hole blown in it and had to be hammered flat. Before it totally stopped working we had experienced a number of instances where the GFI kicked out when the oven was preheating. Troubleshot the oven by checking the broiler which worked good (same fuel valve). After reading the some tips about troubleshooting the Glow Ignitor I could see the broiler ignitor got white hot and the oven ignitor only got bright orange (orange to red causes intermittent ignition or mini explosions). Watched the how to video and it was good information. You should be observant about which openings in the back of the oven as to where the two wires are coming out of. My oven is over 12 years... Replaced the following parts but did not fix the problem: -Thermister -Thermal fuse -Radiant sensor -Ignitor -Therm The problem was the Centrifugal switch. Took the switch apart and use fine grid sand paper to clean the contacts. Put it back and working. Read more

Removed the bottom tin work in the oven and removed the burner tube. Tried to remove the igniter bracket but the screws were too tight for the Phillips head and couldn't get vice grips to clamp on the head, so I bent the bracket enough to remove and replace the igniter. Then reassembled. I give AppliancePros.com a 5 star rating. This is a Montgomery Ward gas range made by Tappan. Parts are no longer offered for this appliance. So, I had to eyeball various ignitors to determine which one would work. I settled on the least expensive one and ordered two (Just in case there were "issues"). The parts arrived quickly but were not a simple drop-in replacement. We replaced both front orifice holders. Very easy to bend and break. If it has a deep bend in it, It will slow down the gas flow to the burner. if you have a low gas flow your burner will burn low So check your small silver gas lines and if you smell gas check your lines Read more

Replaced ingniter. Unlike some of the repair videos I saw, I could do everything by removing the lower draw, and in fact access from the back of the stove was not an option on my Amana. Pulling the stove out and fussing around turned a likely ten minute job in to a twenty minute. Unit work great, now I just need to keep tabs on the broiler igniter, which may be on the way out as well. Read more

I looked on Appliance Parts Pros. com and read the problems that others had and replacing the ignitor made sense so I ordered one. It came by UPS within 3 days. I watched the video on how to replace it. Everything went easily, except the screw that held the ignitor in place was a philups head screwdriver and I couldn't get a screwdriver into the small space I had to work in so I went to Harbor Freight Tools and bought an inexpensive 90 degree rachet screwdriver for $2.99 and it worked great....
